Prologue

-Jack and Annie meet “two young sorcerers named Teddy and Kathleen” who have helped them on their missions. Once they’ve proven they can handle the tasks, Merlin the magician gives Jack and Annie a wand to help them make their own magic.

Ch. 2

-Jack and Annie get started and run from a group of samurai. The samurai catch up and question them while pointing swords at them. Jack and Annie are saved by a kind samurai master named Basho.

Ch. 3

-Basho explains that the weather has been dry, so many are worried. There had been a fire 25 years ago that had killed many in their town.

-There’s a picture of a man rowing a boat; he’s in traditional summer rowing garb (similar to a sumo wrestler).

Ch. 4

-Jack and Annie walk past a stage where a puppet show is being performed. Basho explains that they are talking about “The Cloud Dragon...a guardian animal…that has the power of flight and commands the rain clouds.

-In the middle of the town, a sumo match has begun, and Basho brings Annie and Jack to watch. This is pictured in the novel as such.

Ch. 7

-As everyone is sleeping, bells begin to ring signaling a fire in town. Jack, Annie, and Basho go into town to help the firefighters put out the fire. However, it’s not enough; the fire continues to blaze. Jack and Annie decide to use their magic wand to help put out the fire.

Ch. 8

-The wand summons the cloud dragon, who sends rain on Edo to stop the flames. Afterward, Jack and Annie try to find Basho. They find him covered in soot, sitting next to his banana tree and the charred ruins of his house.
